Mine are just foam with the cloth face. But on bare skin the difference was huge. The old Shimano sandals have a diamond bump texture, and I noticed I didn't miss that at all.

If you're going to try walking sandals, get pedals with power grips, which is a respected system for strapping your feet to wide platform pedals , with an easy release.

Well I have used the padded insoles now on a couple of rides. I have noticed some improvement but I still get numbness to varying degrees. I am going to try the grinder thing in the next few days.

I use Lake mx60 sandles as well, with the ground down toe ridges, very comfy with Crank brothers Candy C pedals I just installed last week

Well, we rode 18 miles last night and NO toe numbness. Yipppppeeeeeee! I used a small 2" right angle grinder and ground off the hump in the insole under my toes on my Shimano sandles.
